Service Commissions in New Brunswick

New Brunswick is divided into 12 Regional Service Commissions (RSCs), which were established in 2013 to encourage collaboration among communities. Their purpose is to help local governments better respond to residents' needs and to foster regional cooperation on services and planning. These commissions bring municipalities, rural districts, and other partners together to benefit from shared expertise, coordinated service delivery, and strategic regional development.

In 2023, significant reforms to local governance were introduced across the province. One of the key changes was the expansion of the Regional Service Commissions' responsibilities. Their updated mandates now include broader roles. By working collectively through the RSCs, communities across New Brunswick are better positioned to deliver efficient public services, plan for future growth, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.
