Who We Are

The Western New Brunswick Service Commission is corporation created through provincial legislation, that regional service delivery to the municipalities of the Region. The WNBSC is governed by a Board of Directors, which includes the mayors from each of the municipalities, along with a representative from the rural district. 


What We Do:

We are a dedicated team that provides the delivery of regional services to the communities of Wester New Brunswick.  The Commission has 8 mandated services but can expand into new collaborative regional services at the discretion of the Board of Directors.


Our Region:

The Western NB region includes 6 municipalities and 1 rural district, serving a total population of 35,385, covering an area of 8820 km2.

Services Offered

Under legislation the Commission is mandated to undertake the regional delivery of 7 services with the ability to collaborate on additional initiatives as resolved by the Board of Directors. The mandated responsibilities include.

Regional and Local Planning

Regional Planning for land use involves guiding and managing the development of land in a way that supports sustainable growth, ensures efficient use of resources, and balances the need of community. We provide expertise to the public, developers and municipalities in matters of land use planning.

Regional Tourism Promotion

Promoting tourism involves enhancing the region's appeal to visitors by developing strategies to attract tourists, support local attractions, and boosting the tourism industry. We aim to increase awareness, improve visitor experiences, and contribute to the area's economic growth.

Solid Waste Management

Solid Waste Management ensures efficient waste collection, disposal, and recycling practices. We aim to promote environmental sustainability, reduce waste, and manage recourses effectively to protect public health and the environment.

Economic Development

Economic development focuses on fostering growth and improving the local economy by supporting businesses, attracting investment, and creating job opportunities. We work to enhance the economic conditions through strategic planning, collaboration, and the development of initiatives to promote sustainability and long-term prosperity.

Community Development & Regional Transportation

Community development and Regional Transportation aims to improve local infrastructure, enhancing transportation networks, and fostering community growth. We ensure accessible, efficient, and sustainable transportation options to support regional development and improve the quality of life for residents.

Regional Sport, Recreational, and Cultural Planning

Regional Sport, recreational, and cultural planning involves the organization and development of initiatives that enhance community engagement through sports, recreation, and culture. We plan, coordinate, and support acitivities that improve services, encourage participation, and ensure the sustainable development of regional facilities and programs cater to well-being, inclusivity, and cultural enrichment within the rural district.

Public Safety

"Police, fire protection, and emergency planning services frequently span multiple local jurisdictions. To improve regional coordination, the regional service commission is tasked with establishing a Public Safety Committee that fosters communication, strengthens relationships, and facilitates the exchange of critical information.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors, comprised of local Mayors and the Representative for the Western Valley district, collaborates with the WNBSC corporate staff to ensure effective governance. They provide local expertise and foster regional cooperation, planning, and communication on key issues. Board members set the overall objectives for the Commission through the adoption of a Regional Strategy and set the annual budget for the organization to successfully deliver on the objectives.
